What is College Goal Oregon?

College Goal Oregon is a FREE event designed to help Oregon college-bound students and their families with the financial aid application process. Everyone is invited to attend this event, whether they are high school or non-traditional returning students. Financial aid professionals will be on hand to help attendees complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Oregon Student Access Commission (OSAC) scholarship application.

Who should attend College Goal Oregon?

Anybody who needs financial aid for postsecondary education should attend College Goal Oregon. Even though many of the sites are community colleges, you do not need to be attending (or planning on attending) that college to get help.

What documents should I bring with me to the College Goal Oregon event?

  • Yourself and a parent if possible
  • Most recent completed federal tax return. If you haven’t filled out your taxes yet, estimate. You can send in exact numbers later.
  • Current value of assets, including cash, checking, savings, investments, and value of business/farm, if any.
  • Social Security numbers of student and parents
  • Driver's license (if any)
  • Alien registration card (if you are not a U.S. citizen)

$500 Scholarship to Prevent Drug/Alcohol Abuse

Alert Magazine is offering a $500 scholarship to a high school senior with the best essay on drug abuse prevention.  Must have a 2.5 or higher GPA and follow the following guidelines:

  • Write an essay about a personal encounter you or someone you know has had with drug and/or alcohol abuse. In your essay explain how the situation was dealt with, what you learned from it, what others can learn from the experience, and what was right or wrong (in your opinion) about the way the incident or problem was handled. Scholarship essays are judged in the same way that essays written for a high school English class would be: thesis statement, supporting content, grammar, punctuation, etc.
  • Essays must be typed, double-spaced, and 650–800 words in length.

  • Essays must include an official copy of your high school transcripts.

  • Essays must also include a recent photo. Scholarship winners will have their picture reprinted in our magazine along with their winning essay, so please send a good quality color photo (no blurry printouts).

  • No application is needed and there is no deadline, but you must meet the eligibility requirements and include all of the items listed above to be considered.

  • For more information, go to their website:  http://www.alertmagazine.org/scholarship.php
